#SaveBritney is trending all over social media, here is why:
Britney Spears rose to fame at a young age and that really messes with your head. She started to “lose it” around 2008. She was in and out of rehab, drove with a baby in her lap, shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi with an umbrella.
To be fair, she was toxic and we were all slipping under. When she attacked the paparazzi she was not that innocent. Oops I did it again, okay no more Britney puns for now…
In 2008 she was placed under legal conservatorship.
Legal Vocab Lesson Time: Conservatorship(Noun): When the court rules that you are crazy and that you can’t be in control of yourself.
Britney has never had a good relationship with her father, but the court granted him conservatorship over her life. She was 26 years old and making millions, but he had full legal control over her finances, who she got to see and what she got to do.
Conservatorship is usually granted when someone has dementia or a severe mental illness, but Britney is still able to perform and build an empire. It seems a little fishy why someone needs this much control of a 20-something year old who is making millions of dollars.
After a few years of conservatorship, she writes this letter (in 3rd person) talking about:
-How her children got taken away from her and she freaked out like any mother would do.
-How she has been silenced to speak about anything going on.
-How the people controlling her life make $3M per year.
-How she wants new eyes to see this situation.
-But if she says anything they threaten to take away her kids.
I don’t know about you, but this seems like a pretty obvious cry for help and that something is going on here…
Fast forward 10 years, from this letter in 2010 to now and Britney is still under legal conservatorship, even though she is performing all over the world and has accumulated a net worth of $60M.
She is now 38 years old and has no control over her life. Her Instagram starts getting kind of scary and her fans think she’s not okay.
Her fans think her father is controlling her life and social media, and ask her to send a message if she needs help. She makes this post next and honestly this is when I got the chills…
“She wore flowers in her hair and carried magic secrets in her eyes”
Britney has been posting a lot of flowers and her fans comment on pictures “Look at her eyes” “You can see in her eyes she’s not okay“. Is this a message to those comments? The author she quotes is Arundhati Roy, a best selling author for her novel The God of Small Things. This is direct from Wikipedia about the book, I highlighted some parts for emphasis…
“The God of Small Things is the debut novel of Indian writer Arundhati Roy .The book explores how the small things affect people’s behavior and their lives.
Plot Ammu Ipe is desperate to escape her ill-tempered father, known as Pappachi, and her bitter, long-suffering mother, known as Mammachi. She persuades her parents to let her spend a summer with a distant aunt in Calcutta. To avoid returning to Ayemenem, she marries a man there but later discovers that he is an alcoholic, and he physically abuses her and tries to pimp her to his boss.”
Her fans asked for a message and she said “secrets in her eyes” and quoted an author who wrote a novel about a girl who is “desperate to escape her ill-tempered father.”
Here are some comments on that post.
I’m not really sure what is going on here, but it seems like we need to #SaveBritney
Even Miley Cyrus screamed it on stage last year:
