Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder was arrested this morning by the FBI on racketeering charges. The alleged $60 million bribery scheme invloved four other arrest including two lobbyist. Last year Larry Householder over here passed a controversial law that bailed out two failing nuclear power plants under the guise of “Green Energy”
This bill awarded FirstEnergy Solutions $150 million per year which mostly came from a $0.85 charge on Ohioan electricity bills. Larry and his boys got a kickback in the form of campaign and political lobby group donations. They are facing a maximum of 20 years in prison but let’s be honest they’ll most likely get off easy.
This kind of thing is disgusting but happens all the time. A politician is approached by lobbyist to push through some bill that helps a business or interest. Why would a politician not represent the constituents that elected them? MONEY!!! So they create some bill with a seemingly positive name but sneak in two sentences called “earmarks” that have nothing to do with the bills title. Then money can go directly into their bank account through a bribe or be funneled through a group like GenerationNowInc. A lot of politicians opt to do it the legal way like getting a consulting job at firms afterwords or being paid for public speaking. Funds are also used to fund the re-election campaign by putting out propagandized advertisements that fools voters. The cycle happens time and time again until something like this happens and people remember we control who’s in power.
That’s why I like this website Opensecrets.org because you can type in any donors name and see who people donate to. Looks like Dee is going to have to put up a little more than ten Virgils to sneak in a Peleton tax into the next transportation bill…
